"We said we wanted traditional but hip and interesting. NCM struck the perfect balance."

Evanston Colonial

Project Details
with-pages

A large center-entrance colonial, this Evanston project presented us with many unique opportunities. The husband’s parents are longtime clients, so there was a great deal of trust from the beginning. The young family wanted to avoid creating a look that was overly traditional. One example of our more contemporary approach is in the library: we chose to keep the paneling and used traditional shapes for the upholstery then mixed in more current fabrics and accessories to prevent the room from feeling too conservative.

Subtle All Over Pattern

We used one fabric for everything, walls, upholstery, and curtains - this gives the room a quiet but cool elegance.

Practical Design

Grasscloth wallpaper is beautiful, but not very durable. To achieve the texture and dimension that grasscloth provides, without it’s disadvantages, we used a grasscloth painting technique, allowing us to customize the color and provide a hardwearing finish in the bar.

Window Seat

We wanted the window seat on this staircase to be cozy and inviting. After a long search, we found this French cut velvet that quietly referenced the mullions of the fantastic window.
